After the opening session, remarks were given by the Vice Chancellor, President of ADIA, Dean of the Faculty of Adab and Humanities, and the Governor of West Sumatra on June 4 2023. The international seminar was held on the following day, June 5 2023.
In his remarks, the Dean of FAH UIN Imam Bonjol, Prof. Nelmawarni, M.Hum., PhD, alluded to the scientific motivation behind this annual event. He explained that this year's scientific forum for Adab science lecturers would discuss the paradigm of humanities studies in the era of the industrial revolution 5.0.
At the conference, Dr. Suryadi, M.A., one of the keynote speakers from Leiden University Netherlands, presented a paper on Islamic practice through social media in Indonesia. In his presentation, he describes the landscape of Muslim religious behavior in Indonesia, which is observed on various social media platforms today.
“New media has given colour to and significantly influenced our religious practices, the way we express our religion, not only in terms of hablumminannas, but also hablumminallah. Adhering to Islam through social media has become a necessity and part of the daily life of our society now," he said.
Another guest speaker, Prof. Dr. Mohd. Roslan Bin Mohd. Nur, from the University of Malaya presented a paper entitled Society 5.0 and Religious Moderation: Learning from Umar's Assurance of Safety Al-Uhda Al-Umariyyah. Slightly different from Suryadi, Moh. Ruslan emphasized his analysis on the aspect of strengthening religious moderation.
Moh. Ruslan put forward a model of religious moderation from the treasures of Islamic history in the caliph Umar bin Khattab era. He took the example of Umar bin Khattab's agreement with Christians in Jerusalem, known as Al-Uhda Al-Umariyah, as a form of tolerance that underlies the attitude and behavior of religious moderation in Islamic teachings.
Meanwhile, a critical-constructive description of observing the literacy phenomenon in the 5.0 era is the focus of the study presented by Prof. Nurdin Laugu, M.A. He criticized the existence of literacy turbulence as a result of the use of social media and the role of libraries in advocating knowledge production in this complex situation. Abdul Hamid, M.A. presents the study of Arabic during the era of the 5.0 Industrial Revolution.
The doctoral alumnus of Omdurman University, Sudan, described the development of Arabic in the digital era and the challenges that the language of the Koran will face amid technological advances.
In the ADIA Forum, an FGD (Focus Group Discussion) was held for the Deans of the Adab Faculty, which discussed preparations for the implementation of the MBKM (Merdeka Belajar Kampus Merdeka) curriculum and the implementation of cooperation between Adab Faculties of PTKIN in Indonesia as well as benchmarking among Adab Faculties of PTKIN.
In the FGD on MBKM, the Dean and Deputy Dean Forums agreed to provide opportunities for students to carry out student exchanges to Study Programs under the Faculty of Ushuluddin, Adab and Da'wah throughout PTKIN with no additional UKT (Single Tuition) fees to the Faculties they are targeting. In addition, the mechanism is made as effective as possible regarding the system and implementation while still referring to the standards set by the Indonesian Ministry of Education and Culture.
In discussing the implementation of the collaboration, the Dean and Deputy Dean Forum agreed to exchange sources, final task examiners, and guest lecturers in academic activities within the Faculty of Ushuluddin, Adab and Da'wah of PTKIN to create a better academic atmosphere.
In this FGD, it was also agreed that the venue for the following year's ADIA Forum will be at UIN North Sumatra (Medan). UIN Aceh would also be ready to host the 2024 ADIA Forum if there were any obstacles.
