The Faculty of Adab and Cultural Sciences invited Nur Khalik Ridwan to Biweekly Forum 32nd

The Faculty of Adab and Cultural Sciences invited Nur Khalik Ridwan to discuss his latest work, Islamdi Jawa XIII-XVI, in the Bi-Weekly forum 32nd on Friday, 19 August 2022. In the opening remark, the dean explained that although the Covid-19 pandemic has ended, this discussion series will be conducted online and offline, or hybrid. Thus, the audiences who are unable to attend in the face to face meetings can participate online.

On this occasion, Nur Khalik Ridwan stated that he began to pay attention to Javanese Islam due to the numerous research conducted by some orientalists who tend to exclude Islam in their studies on the religion of Java. On the other hand, the religion of Java, based on Babad Diponegoro ('The Chronicle of Diponegoro'), was Islam. Furthermore, Nur Khalik predicted that Islam had existed before Hinduism. Further information about this topic is available in his book.

The most challenging one when compelling this book was comparing one to other sources. Some participants questioned these sources mainly about the validity of such chronicle as historical evidence. Some experts believelocal sourcessuch as babad, Tambo, and others are literature, not historical sources. However, Nur Khalik Ridwan argues that it depends on historians' perspectives and schools of thought.
