MAIN AREAS OF LIBRARY AND INFORMATION SCIENCE

Nowadays, as an interdisciplinary study, Library and Information Science has a significant role. It studies information processing, starting from the creation, acquisition, analysis, organization, storage, retrieval, and dissemination of information. Therefore, it is necessary to discuss current issues in this field.

Bi-Weekly Forum #30 Faculty of Adab and Cultural Sciences UIN Sunan Kalijaga held a virtual seminar entitled "Current Issues on Library and Information Field" on Friday, June 3, 2022. The speaker, Nora Lisa Mohd Hussain, is the Program Coordinator for the Bachelor's Degree of Information Science, Universiti of Selangor, Malaysia. Thoriq Tri Prabowo, a lecturer at the Faculty of Adab and Cultural Studies, became a moderator in this discussion series.

Nora stated that Library and Information Science mainly focuses on three areas: information management, information retrieval, and the implementation in institutions such as libraries, archives, museums, and others. The alumni of this program have opportunities to contribute to public and private agencies as information and documentation experts, librarians, archivists, and other professionals in the field of information management.

Based on these scientific dimensions, library and information science has a bright future. Furthermore, alongside advanced technology, it has a significant role in providing academics to acquire primary sources of knowledge. Good information management will be crucial in building the structures of the digital society dimension.
