Explaining The Bilateral Relationship between Indonesia dan Morocco (1960-2020) with Dr. Fouad Larhzizer
The relationship between Morocco and Indonesia is an interesting field to study. Indonesia has a historical link with Morocco dating back to the Islamization period and even continue until today. Syekh Maulana Maghribi was a Muslim scholar from Morocco who played an important role in Islamizing in Indonesia. Indonesia has been influenced by Morocco in some areas such as intellectual as well as in mysticism especially that carry out by Tijaniyah, a Sufi order (tarekat) organization from Morocco.
Bi-Weekly Forum #25 Faculty of Adab and Cultural Sciences UIN Sunan Kalijaga held a virtual seminar about the “Cultural Relationship between Morocco and Indonesia (1960-2020)”. Dr. Fouad Larhzizer, the speaker, is a lecturer from Hassan First University Settat, Morocco. The discussion, which was held on Friday, January 28, 2022, was moderated by a lecturer in the Faculty of Adab and Cultural Studies, UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta,Kholili Badriza, M.Hum.
Dr. Fouad Larhzizer stated that Ibnu Batuta, a Muslim traveler from Morocco, was traveled Nusantara archipelago in the 14 century. He visited Samudra Pasai kingdom in Sumatra. Moreover, there is another evidence about Morocco's influence in Indonesia, especially in the intellectual field. Dr. Fouad said that KitabAl-Ajurumiyah,an Arabic grammatical book by Ibnu Ajrum, andDalail al-Khairat, a book of Salawat byMuhammad bin Sulaiman al-Jazuli, were written by Morocco scholars. Those books are studied and popular among pesantren in Indonesia.
The bilateral relationship between Morocco and Indonesia is more strength in these days. In Morocco itself, for instance, there are many Indonesian students with their student organizations. Many scholarships are provided for Indonesian students to study in Morocco higher education level.The partnership between the two countries includes intellectual, spiritual, and economic.
